Specifications that must not be confused

Check the sealing area
The vented tank lid must be checked by examining the cleanliness of the seating surface, the seal where one is provided and the absence of visible deformation. Closure quality also depends on the condition of the contact surfaces. A misplaced seal or dirty seating surface can prevent correct closure even when the dimensions are right.
Retain the specific function
To avoid confusion with a similar item, check any ventilation, seal membrane, retaining method or other explicitly stated specification directly on the product sheet. Any special functions stated on the product sheet form part of the reference specification. These details must not be carried over by analogy from another cap or lid.
Engage without forcing
For the vented tank lid, use the start of the thread or retaining system and the position of the seal as key checks. The closure must be offered up on-axis and then engaged evenly. Unusual resistance should prompt a check of the dimensions before proceeding.
